MICHAEL MESCHKE (SE)
Michael Meschke is the guest of honor at this year's B I P Festival.
To celebrate his 80th birthday and his visit to Iceland, B I P will open a temporary exhibition in the newly renovated MilkArtHouse with puppets and other pieces from Meschke's key performances, shedding a light on his long and fruitful career.
Michael Meschke founded Marionetteatern in Stockholm in 1958 and was its director and artistic director until 1999. The theatre group was highly influential and toured the world with its performances, most notably Ubu Roi and The Little Prince. Michael Meschke has written a number of books and taught at various puppet departments including the Turku Arts Academy (Finland) and ESNAM (France).
Michael Meschke has been deeply involved with UNIMA (the international association of puppet art) for the past decades, serving as a member of its executive committee for twenty-two years, as chairman of its Third World Commission, and as Vice-President, co-founder and chairman of UNIMA-Sweden. Meschke generously contributed to the founding of UNIMA Iceland in 1976.
Michael Meschke will give a lecture at the symposium "Puppetry: An Interdisciplinary Art" on Saturday 2nd of April at 14:00.
